“We come from Earth,” he tells her, but from the tone he speaks in it’s obvious he’s not used to the statement being believed, but willing to explain for her benefit, especially as she seems willing to trust his words. Of course he’s vaguely offended by the comparison to Reapers, but keeps that to himself. “But not the Earth as you know it, far distant in time, possibly even in space. I would be considered ancient to you; nearly twenty-eight hundred years have passed since the time I remember and I am older still than that.“It is unsurprising that you have never seen another of my kind. I have had.. no luck in locating even traces of us existing besides stories.” This last fact is shared with a down-turning of his voice, traces of sadness and possibly loneliness in the words. “I plan on.. seeking out our homelands once this war is over, hopefully to find more than legends or myths.”
“Three thousand years?” She can’t help but smile at him, though it strikes her as odd that she is so easily accepting of his appearance and story; these are odd times indeed. “Well, if it makes you feel any better Suleiman, I know someone who’s thirty-thousand years old and is alive and kicking Reaper butt, so, ah, don’t let that slow you down…?”
Shepard clears throat at the mention of his solitude, that smile fading into a mournful, sympathetic straight-face. “I’m… I’m sorry. I’m certain you aren’t alone… At least, one can hope. Whatever the case, I wish you luck with your search.”
